Mark is a Dutch Navy&Airforce veteran with over 20 years of experience in engineering where most of his time was spent in IT. As a former individual contributor, project engineer, tech lead and manager, Mark has a unique and holistic view of both engineering and recruitment. As a recruiter, he uses these insights to build strategic partnerships with hiring teams, advise recruiters on their outreach to ‘techies’ and connect to candidates on a different level.
Currently, Mark is a Sr. Tech Recruiter at Elastic, a distributed by design open-source software company, where he finds and hires hard to find tech talent across the globe from the comfort of his own home in the Netherlands (or a holiday destination). Mark co-leads tooling efforts, is focussed on recruitment data visualisation and loves to turn processes inside out to see if they can be improved.
Next to his work at Elastic, Mark is an evangelist and advisor for remote work, a strong voice for ‘recruiter experience’ and he loves to mentor (tech) recruiters on how to become strategic with their teams and how to optimize outreach.
While Mark used to dislike recruiters back in the day (too much spam from the bad ones), he has found his calling in recruitment and tries to make recruitment better, step by step.
